Bloggers defined by Pew Survey

The Pew Internet & American Life Project has released their latest survey results on “Pew Bloggers: A portrait of the internet’s new story tellers.” Here’s some interesting facts revealed by this phone survey or bloggers.

  • 54 percent of bloggers are under the age of 30.
  • Women represent 46 percent of bloggers while men represent 54 percent.
  • 37 percent of bloggers focus on “my life and experiences” while 11 percent examine politics and government, 7 percent on entertainment, 6 percent on sports and 4 percent on technology (I’m not really sure what I would say this blog focuses on),

Make sure you take a look at the entire report to get the big picture. Of course if you interested in finding out more about what Americans do online (from dating to banking) be sure to check out the other reports that are part of the Pew Study.

RSS Readers & Bloglines

I’ve tried to use several RSS (really simple syndication) readers over the years, but haven’t ever found any that did it for me. So, I’ve just ignored RSS. A few months ago tried out Bloglines for a second time and I really, really like it– I mean use it two or three times a day like it. I’m not if the difference is in bloglines or my mind set, but it makes a lot of sense to me now to be able to read everything in one place. It also seperates all the content from the design of the blogs and I can churn through the content a lot faster than I can the content + design.

MySpace goes corporate

All the web traffic at MySpace has generated a lot of big mainstream media interest and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has pulled out their fat wallet and bought MySpace. I’m not sure that Rupert and company get MySpace or online communities. They are claiming that MySpace is going to turn News Corp “from a content company into a marketing company.” I think as soon as MySpace users figure out they are being used they will move on to the next big thing.

Simultaneous Media Usage (World Cup style)

So, the US was knocked out of the World Cup in the first round and now we are about to discover who will play Italy in the finals (either France or Portugal). Even if you can catch the game live on TV, you might want to keep up with them on the match tracker either on ESPN’s Soccernet website or the official FIFA Worldcup website. Both of the sites offer live text play by play and commentary along with live statistics through out the game. If you can’t get to a TV during the games, the matchtracker does provide an adequate fill-in to let you know what is going on.

How often do you use more than one type of media at once? Do you surf the web or chat and watch TV or listen to the radio at the same time? How often is your usage of both forms of media related to the same subject, like how I watch the World Cup? Many TV networks are adding related websites where you can follow along live online, especially during sporting events and reality tv shows.
