My home state, Arkansas, has been in crisis mode in school spending for about the past five years. In his latest proposal, the Governor suggests that school district’s administrative spending should be capped at seven percent of their overall budget. In a story in today’s paper the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette revealed that 21 Arkansas school districts will have to tighten their administrative belt to meet this goal. In response, Clarendon School District Superintendent George LaFargue on his district’s administrative spending…

“I’m spending like a drunken sailor in all areas because I have to.”

Clarendon, with just 705 students, topped the list of administrative spending percentage in 2005 spending 11.22 percent of its budget on administrative costs.

I just got back from SXSW interactive in Austin, Texas. It was a great conference where I learned a lot of new stuff and got confirmation that I am doing web design and development the right way. I won’t say much more about SXSW (south by southwest) because if you look around you’ll find all the details of who said what and pictures of them doing it.

Scot Hacker, the webmaster at UC Berkley’s Grad School of Journalism, has posted his notes on just about ever session I attended on his blog.

If you are into web design and development, you need to try to make it to Austin sometime for SXSW.
