So you want to see what a great newspaper looks like?

If you’re like me and the major online newspaper serving your region is a sorry excuse for an online newspaper(see for yourself), then you may not know how amazing a great online newspaper can be. Well, he’s your chance…

The 2005 Digital Edge Award finalists wereannounced today. Normally this is a list of the very best of the very best online newspapers and you can getsome great ideas from visiting these sites. They have a number of different categories they hand out awards in including best overall, most innovative use of digital media in event coverage, best sports sites, best automotive sites and best advertising sites.

I really like how the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) divides papers up into circulation categories for these awards. Right now the break it down into less than 75,000, 75,000 to 250,000 and greater than 250,000. I think it would be even better if they would slip in a less than 50,000 or less than 25,000 category for the smaller more rural papers.
